An American Storm Heading For the Premier League?

With 777 Partners closing in on their takeover of EvertonFC, a significant landmark will be reached in thePremier League; ’11 out of the 20 clubs will be owned by Americans’ (Fansler, 2024). Effectively, the USA will have a monopoly on thePremier League, and with this majority American owners may be able to steer the league in any direction they wish.

Understandably this will concern football fans, as the perception is thatAmerican ‘Businessmen or Businesswomen’ owners are ‘dead eyed bottom-line merchants’ (Ganesh, 2021) disregarding the tradition, authentic competition, and community roots of clubs that fans hold sacred.
